The reason partly was that the British administrators were uncomfortable using specific terms for homosexual sex and so they left the law vague. The Supreme Court’s judgment was challenged in a review petition, which was dismissed. In effect, this led to the decriminalisation of LGBT persons, since it meant that they were free to have sex with a person of their choice, irrespective of that person’s gender or sexual orientation. The case in court, however, does not deal with any of these categories of offences. The Delhi high court’s decision was challenged in the Supreme Court by an assorted group of religious and conservative groups and individuals.
They claimed that the high court judgment would lead to a breakdown of the moral fabric of the Indian society. Section 377 China jacquard fabric Factory of the IPC is a potent device and symbol of institutionalised homophobia and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons in India. The Delhi high court in its memorable judgment held that Section 377 was violative of the right to life and dignity, and the right to equality of LGBT persons. It challenges the use of Section 377 to arrest adults for consensual sex. Section 377 was also used in cases of child sexual abuse since there was no specific law to deal with sexual violence against children until the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was enacted in 2012. In words that reverberate loudly even today, the court held that it would uphold constitutional morality rather than popular morality, thus asking the government to abide the secular values of the Constitution rather than the moral codes of any religion.
The court has the option of admitting and hearing the matter, referring the matter to a Constitution Bench of five or more judges or dismissing the case.| SIDDHARTH NARRAIN   Published:  Feb 2, 2016, 5:42 am IST Updated:  Feb 2, 2016, 5:42 am IST Two years after the Supreme Court dismissed a review petition filed in Suresh Koushal vs Naz Foundation, in which the court had held Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code to be constitutional, the caseTwo years after the Supreme Court dismissed a review petition filed in Suresh Koushal vs Naz Foundation, in which the court had held Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code to be constitutional, the case has been listed for Tuesday in a curative petition challenging this decision. The court interpreted “sex” to mean “sexual orientation” in Article 15(2), the non-discrimination clause in the Constitution. The Delhi high court’s decision came after an eight-year-long legal battle that began to attract massive public attention by the time it reached its climax.
In a peculiar way, the high court judgment seemed to galvanise these conservative groups from across the political spectrum. They also argued that it was not for the courts to decriminalise homosexuality and that it was the Parliament that was the appropriate forum for this. Having come this far, it is understandable that there is much nervous anticipation for Tuesday’s court hearing. Section 377 has been used in cases of bestiality, which is not covered by other provisions of the IPC.The 377 litigation has become the defining legal battle of our generation, gathering the support of leading senior lawyers, many of whom will be in court on Tuesday.

Mani, senior director, Deloitte.end-of.While primary, secondary and college education are out of GST purview, higher education will be covered. If any of the services that should find place in the merit rate of GST, the first in that list will be telecom services,” he said. “With respect to medicines, we request some leniency. As the passage was the result of difficult political process spread over several decades, it obviously calls for celebration. Under the GST regime, all companies could be brought under 12 per cent slab — this will benefit big companies, but not the small ones. The latter is already subject to VAT and excise and if GST is lower, then the consumer stands to benefit.5 per cent. The housing sector will also bear the brunt of higher GST rate.
“GST is equally applicable to all sectors and is not sector-wise as in China, which <a href="https://www.mmtex.top/">China Knitted Fabric</a> has separate rates for financial services, manufacturing, transport etc. Manufacturers with less than Rs 1.5 crore turnover pays around zero to 12. “Without addressing the needs of home buyers, the government's desire of housing for all will not be met,” he said.Ms Shobana Kamineni, vice-chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Group and president designate, CII, has sought lower GST rate for medicine. While the government has not revealed its cards, a committee head by chief economic adviser Arvind Subramanium recommended 18 per cent rate."Whether GST rate is 18 per cent or 22 per cent, ICRA says the GST rate applicable to services is expected to be higher than the current service tax rate.Clothing will be more expensive if the GST rate is not uniform on yarn, fabric and apparels, and similarly in the case of the food processing sector, he said.
The current tax rate is four per cent, and the proposed 12 per cent maybe passed onto the consumers since the manufacturers have been sev-erely hit by pricing controls. The GST regime, it is speculated, will have three slabs — 12 per cent for essential goods and services, 18-22 per cent standard rate for all goods and services, 40 per cent for products that the government wants to discourage.Currently, manufacturers, other than exempted categories, pay around 25 to 30 per cent tax, which includes excise duty and VAT. So eating out, air travelling, gym, coaching, investment advisors, real estate agents, cab services, etc will become costly. The GST Bill, which was cleared by the Rajya Sabha, is the culmination of mo-dest efforts began with the introduction of MODVAT exactly 30 years ago.Currently, agri-based products manufactured by big companies are taxed at 10 to 16.5 per cent (four per cent VAT and 6 to 12.5 per cent service tax.“However, in the positive all the non-creditable state taxes become creditable under the GST regime, which would moderate the increased tax burden.Except for statements by experts about GST boosting economy by two per cent, people are in dark about what the GST entails and how it affects their daily life through inflationary effect on basic products and services like food, housing, education, clothing, medicine and healthcare, telephony, utilities and travel. So he feels the government should have one more slab for essential goods and services.According to rating agency ICRA says, “The incidence of tax on various goods and services would change, depending on the final rates. In the case of transport, Mr Mani said public transport like buses, trains, taxis etc, are exempted but luxury buses, the Uber and Olas private taxis will come under GST. “Today, healthcare pays four per cent VAT. Under the GST regime, this is increased to 12 per cent — the lowest slab under GST.

Long a bastion for cheap, fast-fashion manufacturing, a new crop of designers are trying to transform the Made in Vietnam label and save the country&rsquo;s rich ethnic heritage in the process. but then I realised we need to be concerned about the environmental, ethical side (of fashion) now or it will be too late,” said Ms Thao.. And there is not a sweat shop in sight.Over in central Hue — the former imperial capital of Vietnam — another label is also helping local artisans market their skills to the global fashion industry.“In the past I carved traditional wooden houses now I carve shoes in a modern style — I love the job,” he said.
The 38-year-old designer has been tapping into this growing global trend by working with some of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic minority groups, each of which have their own unique textiles and traditional clothing designs. our weaving products can go to other countries. But bridging this divide isn’t always easy.Do Quang Thanh, a carpenter, said the idea of making shoes initially struck him as “strange” but he is glad he gave it a try..Fashion4Freedom stepped in to help, teaching traditional woodworkers, who carve ornate pillars in pagodas or local houses, to learn how to make platform shoes that cost some $600 a pair.
The local women who work with her, such as Luong Thi Kim (40), say they too have benefited from the colloboration. The designer has already attracted accolades, winning international design awards and selling her wares to high-fashion buyers.“We knew these people had generations of skill, we just had to unlock it so the market could appreciate it as we did,” Ms LanVy said.Fashion designer Thao Vu works at her home studio in Hanoi, Vietnam..The multi-billion dollar sector has helped drive impressive economic growth but also drawn criticism for weak environmental and labour rights regulations.“Before 100plolyester with milky coating 2000mm I weaved for personal use but now .Yet products made by the country’s traditional fabric spinners are inherently eco friendly — made with natural dyes and textiles, not harsh chemicals or synthetic fibres.

We get celebrities to give their Wholesale Nylon Spandex Fabric take on a current issue each week and lend their perspective to a much-discussed topic. this week we talk aboutRBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. (Photo: AP) We get celebrities to give their take on a current issue each week and lend their perspective to a much-discussed topic. this week we talk about He was not narrow visionedI don’t have much understanding of how the RBI functions and the key roles of the institution, but I am in favour of giving Raghuram Rajan a second term, as he has always voiced his unbiased opinion on important social issues pertinent to the social fabric of this country. The policies he proposed were more focused on keeping the low inflation rate by keeping interest rate high, which were for the benefits of the common man. For a commoner like me, he comes across as a person who is not blinded by narrow vision.
Gigi Scaria, artistLogical reasoning to all his decisions I think it is the policies that Raghuram Rajan brought in that made him popular among common people.  It’s a known fact that he formulated all those policies, standing strong, despite so much opposition from many people. I was quite disappointed after hearing that he does not want to continue.I was following him ever since he came to power. And I’ve been a big fan of his because of his policies.
I got an opportunity to hear him speak thrice and on one occasion I even met him personally, but all I managed to say was ‘hello’. It was after he became the governor of RBI that I, along with the major share of common people, came to more know about such a position and how economic policies are being planned and controlled by someone like him.  He has logical reasons for everything that he brought in. So this should get him to come forward for a second term.Bejoy Nambiar, filmmakerRajan good for country’s imageWe’ve never had an RBI Governor who was good looking and popular with the masses in a long time. I’m not saying that the previous RBI Goverors, like S. Venkitaramanan,Duvvuri   Subbarao, weren’t any good; each of them were good at their job but Raghuram was perfect for the role.
A general demand from us commoners is to lower the interest rate. But I think he knew better and undertook actions for the economy. I think he was good for our country’s image.Anuvab Pal, comedianRajan certainly deserves a second termRaghuram Rajan has done a lot for the common masses. He has brought the level of inflation down, helped exports boom and even cleaned up the banks for us, going on to become an international name. He was good at his job and that’s why he has become a household name.

Show some skin in sexysee through fabrics. Designers show you how to keep it classy.Kendall JennerFor quite some time, we have been noticing the hide and seek games that celebrities like to play with their sartorial choices. Even at prestigious red carpet dos and award nights, the daring stars don’t hesitate in showing off their well-sculpted bodies carefully wrapped in fineries.Dakota JohnsonSheer outfits tend to make an illusion of bare skin in a lot of Lycra Fabric outfits, especially when they are in the shades of nude. It gives a great effect and also helps to hold the silhouette together. For designer Swapna Anumolu, the best sheer fabric to work with is tulle. “You can use sheer fabrics on sleeves as well as on back while designing an outfit. From dramatic outfits of Lady Gaga and Harry Styles at the MET gala to the sizzling evening gowns donned by A-listers like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid etc.“Organza works really well when it comes to the sheer effect as it is both lightweight and transparent.
It also retains colour and print very well and has the delicacy and femininity required for sheerness. For colours, skin coloured fabrics are considered sexy for sheerness but personally, we love to play with bright colours such as pinks and oranges that add an element of fun rather than the clichéd sexiness.”A model wearing a Mishru dressSheerness can be incorporated in many different ways — for example, it can be added as the bottom layer to a slip dress to add sexiness. It can be added to sleeves where modest covering is required. It can be added to necklines, again for modesty yet sexiness, and on the sides for ultra-sexiness,
Sheer layers are always a fun addition – sheer capes over jeans and a cami, sheer coats over ensembles, and sheer organza belts draped around dresses.”Make sure the sheerness is well balanced with the other pieces you have paired it with. Less is less when it comes to too much sheerness, and there is a very thin line between sexiness and vulgarity. Designer Nikasha remarks, “Sheers are best worn with deeper colours and or bright pop colours paired with opaque bottoms. Rule of thumb — keep sheer 25-30 per cent of your entire outfit, as it is a bit dicey so do always ensure that it’s well tailored and ironed and finished.”
